Juniper Networks Firewall VPN Platforms
Today pressure on business security is increasing. More and more Companies are turning to the internet, not only to communicate efficiently, but also to transact business. Regulators, and customers, expect a business to protect both owned and non-owned IT assets. This means more and more people are implementing Firewalls to provide a number of security functions.
Juniper Networks lead the market with a range of flexible, functional, high-performance, low cost systems. Firewalls to protect your business whether small or large. As small businesses and remote offices are smaller in scale, but not necessarily less complex than big businesses or HQ sites, Juniper firewalls scale well. A single interface for set-up and management means you learn one system, and can manage pretty much the entire range.
Management is via a Web Gui, though if you need more detailed information, a powerful command line (CLI) is available. Businesses with large numbers of firewalls may opt to use the "Security Manager" software, either on an appliance or on your own server.
Firewall Models:
SSG 5 / SSG20 The SSG-5/SSG20 is designed as a small office/remote office firewall. Multiple fully configurable Ethernet interfaces are complemented by WAN connection options. Wireless a/b/g is an orderable option, with the potential for 4 fully configurable access points per unit. WAN interface options include v92 Modem, ISDN, ADSL2+ and E1 line termination.
The SSG 5/20 like all SSG systems can load balance WAN interfaces, provide traffic management facilities on per interface/per policy basis. Optional AntiVirus, AntiSpam, URL Filtering & Deep inspection make this a low entry cost, high performance UTM Device.
The SSG5/SSG20 can provide 90Mbs performance - this as measured by Juniper's IMIX traffic specification. The SSG5/20 can terminate 25 VPN tunnels (40 with the extended key), and 8000 concurrent sessions (16000 concurrent sessions with the extended key & V6.0 or later ScreenOS).
The extended key also provide High Availability support, so you can run 2 Juniper SSG 5 or 20 systems in failover mode. Either in hot standby, or in active/active load balancing.

SSG 140 The SSG 140 is designed as a small / medium business firewall. A step up from the SSG 5/20, the SSG140 have 10 fully configurable Ethernet interfaces (including 10/100/1000 auto-sensing) and 2 WAN slots. There is a wider range of WAN cards available including ISDN, ADSL2+, SDSL and E1 line termination.
The SSG 140 like all SSG systems can run optional AntiVirus, AntiSpam, URL Filtering & Deep inspection make this a low entry cost, high performance UTM Device.
The SSG140 can provide 300Mbs performance - this as measured by Juniper's IMIX traffic specification. The SSG140 can terminate 250 VPN tunnels, and 48000 concurrent sessions.
High Availability support is a standard feature either in hot standby, or in active/active load balancing.

SSG 300 SeriesThe SSG 300 is a step up from the SSG 140. The SSG 320 is a 1U (the SSG350 1.5U) expandable platform that delivers 400 Mbs (the SSG 350 500Mbs) IMIX (175Mbs 3DES VPN performance). The SSG320 can terminate 250 VPN tunnels (the SSG 350 - 350 tunnels), and 48000 concurrent sessions.
High Availability support is a standard feature either in hot standby, or in active/active load balancing.
The SSG 320 / 350 comes standard with 4 x 10/100/1000 Ethernet interfaces; expandable with WAN or LAN (8 or 16 port 10/100/1000 port) cards. Each port can act as a VLAN trunk.

SSG 500 SeriesThe SSG 520M/ 550M are 2U rackmount, High performance firewalls. Standard with 4 x 10/100/1000 ports, these units are expandable via the addition of Physical Interface Modules (PIMs). Like the 300 series, the 500 series systems have the same underlying hardware as the J-Series routers, and can be ordered with ScreenOS or JUNOS.
Performance is 1Gbs (the SSG 520M 600Mbs) IMIX (500Mbs/300Mbs 3DES VPN performance). The SSG550 can terminate 1000 VPN tunnels (the SSG 520M - 500 tunnels), and 128,000 concurrent sessions.

ISG The ISG1000 and 2000 are modular, multi-gigabye performance firewalls that introduce powerful virtualisation facilities. VSYS allows administrators to give "sub administrators" the control over their security policies without handing full control of the firewall to each sub-administrator.
These ASIC based systems are available with IDP cards for full protection at gigabit speeds against intrusions/hacking. GPRS is also supported for mobile/cellular operators. Like the other Juniper Firewall models, the ISG series can also protect via onboard AntiSpam and URL Filtering.

5000 Series The 5000 platforms are top-of-the range ScreenOS based Firewall systems designed for high-speed infrastructure based security topologies. Virtualisation (up to 500 virtual firewalls) and chassis based construction providing in excess of 20Gbs throughput means these systems can support 10's of thousands of users with ease.
The Chassis supports GigE, 10GigE and various other SX, LX, XPF fibre connectivity options. Authentication, like all Juniper firewalls can be via the local Database or Radius / RSA.
