Extricom - Components

Extricom WLAN solutions are different from standard WLAN access points available in the marketplace. Instead of each A/P operating it's own independed channel, SSID and other services, Extricom collapses this back via an "RF conduit" that rapidly funnels traffic between the clients devices and specialised switch.

Centralisation of the WLAN environment enables you to deploy 802.11a/b/g channels at every AP, creating overlapping channel "blankets". The channel's bandwidth is delivered across the blanket's service area (i.e. the combined coverage of all APs connected to the switch), with interference-free operation and consistent capacity throughout.

Within each channel blanket, the switch avoids co-channel interference by permitting multiple APs to simultaneously transmit on the same channel, only if they won't interfere with each other.

In summary, the Extricom solution eliminates the traditional performance limitations caused by RF cell planning, co-channel interference, edge users, rate adaptation, mixed b/g devices, and frequent AP-to-AP handoffs.

AP Components

With Extricom, there are only two key elements to consider when deploying WLAN: Capacity and coverage. Complex, expensive RF surveys are not required. Selection of a switch will give the number of access points required. Multiple switches can be configured to provide the blanket coverage needed:

Switches
The Extricom switch is the core of the Extricom WLAN solution; the switch is the point of configuration for all access points and supports any combination of 801.11 a/b and g. The Switches are available as 8, 12 or 24 port (EXSW-2400, EXSW-1200 and EXSW-800) models. They contain an on-board Web-based management intrface that allows configuration from a single point. The switch contains built-in Power over Ethernet (PoE) and all hardware-based security capabilities to build a WLAN.

Access Points
Extricom’s APs are high-bandwidth devices, containing two or four standard 802.11 b/g/a radios. Unlike all the others, Extricom APs have no software or individual configuration, since all of the system intelligence resides in the Extricom WLAN Switch. This gives the advantage of truly plug-and-play AP installation, as well as allowing APs to be deployed in any density, with whatever spacing to guarantee high-quality, high-speed connectivity everywhere.

With no software inside, each AP requires no configuration and is completely interchangeable. There is no need to reconfigure, reboot, or otherwise maintain the AP. The AP is also PoE ready.

Wireless Office Edition
For the smaller business there is a special bundle of 4 port switch together with 4 dual Radia Access points
